Steel To Become WFCA Chairman July 1

Anaheim, CA.  June 24, 2009--Scott Steel becomes chairman of the board of the World Floor Covering Association (WFCA) effective July 1.

Steel, president and owner of My Flooring America, of Webster, Texas, takes over from Brooks T. Mancini, chairman emeritus of B.T. Mancini Co., who becomes immediate past chairman, replacing Donny Phillips, Jr., president of Atlanta Flooring Design Center in Suwanee, Ga.

At their spring meeting, directors of the 3,000-member organization elected Nick Freadreacea, president of The Flooring Gallery, Louisville, as chairman elect and G. Harold Chapman, president, Bonitz Flooring Group, of Greenville, S.C. and Janice Clifton, owner of Abbey Carpets Unlimited, Napa, Calif. as vice chairmen.  They also confirmed Jim Walters, president of Macco’s Floor Covering Center, Green Bay, Wis. as treasurer and Paul F. Johnson, president of Interiors One Inc., Carpet One, of Tulsa, Okla. as secretary.  D. Christopher Davis continues as the WFCA’s president and CEO.

The WFCA elects a third of its Board of Directors each year for three-year terms.

Directors confirmed the selection by the membership of directors of the board to serve terms beginning July 1.  In addition to re-electing Steel and Chapman, as well as Cam Crenshaw, vice president of Floor Factors in Portland, Ore. to three-year terms, newly elected directors include:
• Daniel Kennedy, president/CEO, ProSource of Baton Rouge, Baton Rouge, La.
• Eric Langan, president, Carpetland USA, Inc., Davenport, Iowa.
• Scott Walker, president, Walker’s Carpet One Inc., Bellingham, Wash.

Steel’s term coincides with the 50th Anniversary of the WFCA and he anticipates using that milestone to initiate several new programs and build on existing ones that will focus on creating additional benefits and value for WFCA members and the entire floor covering industry.
