Pakistan Hand-knotted Carpets Exhibition Set for A
Karachi, Pakistan, August 18--Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exports Association (PCMEA) Chairman Abdul Ghafoor Sajid said the regional hand-knotted carpets exhibition will be held at the Karachi Expo Centre from August 28-30.
In a statement issued here, he said that last year the hand-knotted carpet exhibition was organised in Lahore, according to the Business Recorder.
He said that the association is pursuing the Commerce Ministry for acquiring land in the vicinity of Korangi industrial area to setup manufacturing factories.
He said that the carpet exhibition in Lahore in 2004 had helped the exporters in increasing their export by $50 million.
He said that the total carpets export would reached $283 million at the end of the current fiscal year, whereas the total carpet exports was around $232 million in 2004.
He said that the share of Sindh in the total exports of the country is about 15-17 percent, while in 1986, it was higher than the Indian exports that is now 10 times more of our exports.
