Atlanta, GA, January 7--Robert Nardelli will resign from the board of Coca-Cola to concentrate on his job as chief executive of Home Depot, the home improvement retailer.
The departure of one of corporate America's biggest stars will remove some of the personality from Coke's high-profile boardroom.
Coke insisted that Nardelli's resignation was not the start of a wider shake-up of the company's board, which has been criticised by some investors for interfering in management.
Other Coke directors include Warren Buffett, the legendary US investor, and Barry Diller, the former head of Paramount Studios and Fox TV.
Nardelli said he had decided not to seek re-election to the board when his term expires on April 19 because of "increasing demands on my time at The Home Depot".
