stair-treads.com is the direct result of a definite need in the marketplace. With sales in the marketplace slumping, retailers need to look at every avenue to increase their profit per job. Prefinished stair treads are a goldmine for retailers. The margin on an installed set of prefinished treads can be very lucrative but too many retailers shy away from treads because the installation can be tricky if their installers are unfamiliar with treads and the perceived liability can exceed the benefits.

The idea behind stair-treads.com is not so much of a direct to consumer sales model but a way for retailers to supply prefinished stair treads to their customers without incurring the liability and costs in stocking stair tread inventory. Under our current model, we supply preprinted pamphlets to the retailer with a unique “discount code” on each pamphlet. The retailer can then distribute these pamphlets to their customer who, in turn, receives 20% off their stair tread order. We track each discount code processed and cut a rebate check back to the retailer on a monthly basis. This is a win-win-win scenario, the homeowner receives high quality prefinished treads at a great price, the retailer earns commission with no monetary investment, and we move more stair treads. A successful retailer can earn substantial revenue each month in commission from a few extra moments with each customer.
Today, stair-treads.com is offering prefinished stair treads in Brazilian Cherry, Tigerwood, Maple, and Red Oak. These species are available finished natural or the customer can send a sample of their new floorcovering for a custom made stair tread at no extra cost.
