Hiring Expands in Construction Sector

New York, NY, Jan. 15, 2013 -- More construction companies are planning to hire this year than shed employees, according to a survey by the Associated General Contractors of America.

According to the survey, roughly 31% of construction companies plan to hire workers this year, while 9% of firms plan to cut jobs.

A year ago, 31% of firms planned to cut employees.

Tempering the growth is the expectation that the public sector will have fewer projects.

The construction industry 2.2 million jobs during the downturn but gained 18,000 last year.
