Dal-Tile Plant Earns OSHA Distinction

Dallas,TX, April 15, 2009--Dal-Tile Corp., the largest U.S. manufacturer and distributor of ceramic tile and natural stone, has earned Star status from the Occupational Safety and Health Administration’s (OSHA) Voluntary Protection Program.

The OSHA recognition is for excellence in workplace safety and health management systems at Dal-Tile's El Paso, Texas, manufacturing plant. The facility is the first ceramic tile manufacturing plant in the country to receive the distinction, which is the highest VPP designation awarded by OSHA.

“Our entire El Paso team has done an outstanding job implementing procedures and protocols to achieve the safest workplace environment possible,” said Harold Turk, president of Dal-Tile.

The plant was awarded Star status because of employee involvement, safety programs, internal audits, a commitment to excellence in operational performance and safety leadership and management at all levels of the facility’s organization. Companies that achieve Star status also have injury and illness rates at or below its industries’ national average.

Additionally, Dal-Tile’s Muskogee, Okla. plant will apply for OSHA’s VPP Star status later this year, and anticipates receiving the distinction within two years.
