Initial Jobless Claims Rose by 55K to 286K in Second Week of Jan.
Washington, DC, January 20, 2022—In the week ending January 15, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 286,000, an increase of 55,000 from the previous week's revised level, according to the Department of Labor.
Architecture Billings Rose One Point to 52 in December
Washington, DC, January 19, 2021—December’s Architectural Billings Index (ABI) score of 52.0 was an increase from 51.0 in November (any score over 50 indicates billings growth), according to the American Institute of Architects.
Housing Starts Rose 1.4% in December
Washington, DC, January 19, 2022—Privately-owned housing starts in December were at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1,702,000, The U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development announced, 1.4% above the revised November estimate of 1,678,000 and 2.5% above the December 2020 rate of 1,661,000.
Total Construction Starts Flat in December
Hamilton, NJ, January 19, 2022—Total construction starts were flat in December with a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $879.3 billion, according to Dodge Construction Network. Residential construction starts gained 4% in December 2021, while nonresidential building starts improved by 3%. Nonbuilding starts, however, declined 12%.
