Durable Goods Orders Rise in June

Washington, DC, July 27, 2012 -- Durable goods orders increased a better-than-expected 1.6% in June, the Commerce Department estimated Thursday.

It was the second straight monthly increase for durable-goods orders.

Economists had been forecasting a 0.6% increase.

May orders were revised up to a 1.6% gain from the prior estimate of a 1.3% increase.

Outside of volatile aircraft and defense sectors, orders were mainly flat or lower.
