Great Floors Opens New Washington Location

Spokane, WA, May 15, 2006--There were no red carpets rolled out for the opening of the new Great Floors building in Spokane Valley, according to the Spokane Spokesman-Review. But the store can probably find some, if it needs to, said Doug Chadderdon, the president of Great Floors, a company with 15 stores throughout Washington and Idaho. "We have just about every conceivable type of flooring you could ask for," Chadderdon said. The recently opened Spokane Valley store is an enormous 50,000-square-foot warehouse and showroom just off the Evergreen Road exit on Interstate 90. Twenty-six employees do everything from sell floor coverings to deliver carpet. Customers can buy carpets of all types, as well as vinyl laminate, tile and even bamboo to cover their floors. The store also has a section of environmentally friendly floor coverings, as well as a contractor showroom. "The valley store is sort of a prototype for a new series of stores we'll be building," Chadderdon said. Learning from the new store, the company hopes to build newer outlets up and down the Interstate 5 corridor, and to expand in southern Idaho. So far, the valley store has been very busy and it doesn't look to slow down any time soon, said Paul Carlson, manager of the store. "It's going to be a wild year," he said. "It's been fantastic, and business has been good." Great Floors began in the late 1960s, and in the past operated as Carpet Center. The first stores were based out of Coeur d'Alene. The company has been growing ever since and continues to be locally owned, Chadderdon said.
