Weyerhaeuser Adds Two Colors to its Lyptus Line

Federal Way, WA, March 6, 2006--Weyerhaeuser has announced the addition of two new prefinished color options to the Lyptus hardwood flooring product line: Wheat and Garnet. These fashionable colors smartly complement the palettes of today's home and add to an expanding prefinished hardwood flooring product line that currently includes Fire, Earth and Stone as color options. Lyptus flooring is available in ¾" or 5/16" thicknesses, and comes in random lengths ranging from 11" to 88"; planks come in: 2 ¼", 2 3/8", 3", 3 1/8" and 4" widths. Lyptus hardwood flooring is available unfinished or prefinished, and in standard or cottage grade for the exact look desired. Standard is uniform in color whereas cottage has contrasting colors that create a dramatic, striped effect. Prefinished Lyptus flooring products have a factory-applied urethane finish, with all seven coats having an aluminum oxide mixture to help give the floor finish its resistance to wear. The gloss level is approximately 65-70 percent. “Most builders and realtors agree that homebuyers now expect high-quality hardwood flooring as its timeless appeal and warmth pays dividends for years to come," says Cornelia Sprung, brand marketing representative of Weyerhaeuser Residential Wood Products. “But now many buyers are looking towards alternative hardwood choices as environmentally-responsible products are becoming increasingly popular." Lyptus solid wood flooring is manufactured and warranted by Aracruz Productos de Madeira (APM). Weyerhaeuser/APM is a joint venture. Available in a full spectrum of industrial wood products including lumber, plywood, veneer, back and flitch veneer, edge banding and solid and engineered flooring, Lyptus hardwood is ideal for industrial manufacturers as well as architects and builders who are looking for unique, high-quality lumber. Lyptus lumber comes from a Eucalyptus hybrid grown on plantations. One-third of the plantation area is kept in native vegetation to help maintain elements of the natural ecosystem. After the first harvest, many of the second-generation Eucalyptus trees are grown from the stump of the original tree, minimizing the disturbance of the land—and making Lyptus® products a smart choice. Lyptus hardwood features a beautiful and versatile grain that takes a wide range of stains and finishes evenly. And depending on the stain used, it can emulate other wood species including: walnut, cherry, mahogany or maple. This high-quality hardwood lumber is now available in commercial volumes, and is the result of carefully selected natural hybrids and new technology. These important factors give Lyptus lumber a rich color, enduring strength and continued availability for its diverse high-end applications. Moreover, industrial tests carried out in Europe and the United States have proven that Lyptus products can be processed with the same tools and finishing as other hardwoods normally used in the production of furniture and floorings, and is winning accolades from manufacturers who prefer to use an environmentally responsible hardwood that comes from a renewable resource.
