UK Vinyl Recycling Program Gets Participants
London, England, Dec. 8, 2009--New distributors are signing up to Recofloor, the UK and Ireland’s first vinyl flooring recycling take-back program, in what the organizers describe as “very encouraging start” to the four-month-old initiative of which Altro and Polyflor are founder members.
Six firms, all members of the Independent Flooring Distributors Association, are now collecting used vinyl flooring and installation cuttings from contractors, for disposal in special bins at designated sites. They are currently located in Sheffield, Leeds, Hull, Hampshire, Kent and Dublin, with more sites being sought.
Recofloor project manager, Jane Gardner, said: “This is great news and a very encouraging start. Feedback has been very positive. Distributors see it as an additional beneficial and convenient service for their customers, who not only save on disposal costs but can also demonstrate their commitment to reducing environmental impact by recycling old and unwanted vinyl flooring.”
Recofloor provides flooring contractors with bags for material, which are returned full in exchange for new supplies. Offcuts are recycled back into new flooring by manufacturers Altro and Polyflor, while end-of-life material is used for traffic calming products.
