Second Costco Home Store Planned

Tempe, AZ, Mar, 26--Costco Wholesale, the membership-warehouse retailer, will build the second store of its fledgling Costco Home chain near its Tempe store at Elliot Road and Priest Drive, according to the Arizona Republic. Retail insiders say Costco is close to announcing that the new store will occupy a former HomeBase building just east of the Costco store. Costco Home doesn't resemble the bare-bones setup of its warehouse stores. The home store sells top brands in a more typical furniture-store setting. The first Costco Home store opened in December 2002 in a 103,000-square-foot spot in Kirkland, WA. The vacant Tempe store, which had a brief fling as House2Home after HomeBase closed, fits the template at 104,000 square feet.
