Fire at Shaw's Dalton Plant
Dalton, GA, September 4, 2006--A fire broke out at Shaw Industries Plant WD at 2305 Lakeland Road Saturday around 6 p.m, according to the Dalton Daily Citizen.
Whitfield County 911 said there were no injuries but didn’t know if there were any evacuations. The fire created a huge cloud of gray smoke over the industrial area south of downtown Dalton.
At least six Whitfield County Fire Department fire trucks could be seen from the south side of the plant fighting the fire, as residents of a neighboring apartment complex stood and watched the action.
No bystander was willing to comment.
A Shaw official declined to comment and instructed a Daily Citizen reporter to leave the scene.
Traffic was blocked from traveling on Lakeland Road for several hours near the scene in the southern part of Whitfield County.
Firefighter crews remained on the scene into the evening to investigate the cause of the fire and watch for any reoccurrences.
