D.R. Horton 3Q Orders Up 29%

Fort Worth, TX, July 8--D.R. Horton Inc., the nation's largest homebuilder by units, said Thursday that third-quarter sales orders rose 29 percent on double-digit increases across all of its markets. Orders grew to $4.13 billion from $3.22 billion a year ago, driven by a 15.7 percent sales increase in the company's Western region to $1.76 billion. Sales grew to $254.5 million in the company's Midwest region, the largest regional percentage increase at 56 percent. Sales volume increased 20 percent to 14,980 homes from 12,444 homes in the comparable quarter last year. For the nine months ended June 30, sales rose 27 percent to $10.89 billion compared to $8.58 billion for the same period last year. Sales volume increased 15 percent to 39,282 homes from 34,158 homes a year ago. "We are extremely pleased that all of our regions produced double-digit increases in both sales dollars and units. Our continued sales momentum and record backlog ensure that fiscal 2005 will be our 28th consecutive year of record revenues and profitability, and position the company for a strong start to fiscal 2006," said Chairman Donald R. Horton. The company, which builds homes in 68 markets across 22 states, booked sales of $10.84 billion in 2004.
