Dow Chemical Names President, COO

Midland, MI, Nov. 11--Dow Chemical Co. named Andrew N. Liveris, 49, president and chief operating officer. William Stavropoulos, 64, will relinquish his role as president, but will continue as chairman and chief executive, the science and technology company said in a press release Tuesday. Liveris, who has been with the company for 27 years, has been business group president for Dow Performance Chemicals since April 2000. Dow Chemical also formed the newly created office of the chief executive, an executive leadership team, to ensure that the company "delivers on its strategic priorities and integrates all dimensions of the company." The team is composed of Stavropoulos, Liveris, Executive Vice President Arnold A. Allemang, Chief Financial Officer and Executive Vice President J. Pedro Reinhard. In December 2002, Dow's board removed Michael D. Parker as chief executive and president, citing the company's continuing poor financial performance. Stavropoulos then ascended to the top post and launched a plan to trim 3,000 to 4,000 jobs.
