Washington, DC, April 11, 2022- The debate over Section 301 tariffs on imports from China is going to conference.
There are two competing bills on the tarrifs: the COMPETES act in the House and the U.S. Innovation and Competition Act (USICA) in the Senate.
As of last Thursday, the conferees were named, and the activity will hopefully produce a resolution by June, at the earliest, according to HMTX’s Harlan Stone.
There is a preliminary decision that this is a statutory issue and not a Presidential policy. As such, the United States Trade Representative must follow the procedures as outlined in the tariff law written in 1974.
Listen to Stone talk with Kemp Harr about the events.
