Shaw to Close Two Laminate Manufacturing Facilities in October

Dalton, GA, August 16, 2017-Shaw Industries has announced that it will close its laminate manufacturing facilities in Ringgold, Georgia and Lexington, North Carolina.

The closures will take effect in October.

Says David Morgan, executive vice president of operations for Shaw Industries, “Shaw continually evaluates the best way to meet customer needs and adapts our operations accordingly. As demand for laminate products shifts, sourcing those products from other suppliers provides the best opportunity for us to meet evolving market needs while continuing to offer a broad range of products for a diverse range of customers. Shaw will cease its laminate manufacturing operations in Ringgold, Georgia (Plant LM) and in Lexington, North Carolina (Plant LP) in October 2017.

"The shutdown of these two plants does not reflect on the performance of these associates. Associates will be provided support and services to fill open positions within the company and externally.

"Shaw’s significant growth in the hard surface sector promises more opportunity for our customers, company, communities and associates as exemplified by the significant investment in facility construction and production line expansion in multiple hard surface categories in recent years. We are investing hundreds of millions of dollars in LVT/WPC manufacturing -- strategically committing capital in these high growth areas as market preferences continue to shift.”

The laminate category saw a slight gain in revenues in 2016, but category business has largely been flat in recent years.
