Georgia Unemployment Rate Rises

Atlanta, GA, July 19, 2013 -- Georgia's unemployment rate rose to 8.6% in June, state labor officials said.

The unemployment rate was up from 8.3% in May. However, it was still below the 9.1% mark recorded in June of 2012.

The number of long-term unemployed workers increased to 181,200, the highest level since February.

Government has shed 10,000 jobs, while private employers added 9,400 jobs last month.

However, 900 jobs were slashed from the state's manufacturing industry.
