April Consumer Sentiment Tops Expectations

Ann Arbor, MI, April 11, 2014 -- Consumer sentiment hit its highest level since July, according to the Thomson Reuters/University of Michigan's preliminary April index.

The overall index came in at 82.6, compared with the final reading of 80.0 in March.

It was also above the 81.0 reading the economists expected.

"Economic news reaching consumers grew more favorable in early April," survey director Richard Curtin said in a press release.

"Net reports on changes in employment were more favorable, and negative mentions about current economic policies eased."
