WFCA Urging Members To Support Legislation

Anaheim, CA, Oct. 3, 2013 -- The World Floor Covering Association is urging its members to turn up the pressure for the Marketplace Fairness Act.

The legislation would force online sellers to charge sales taxes on purchases for out-of-state customers.

"As many of you are aware, our industry has faced an unfair playing field against the large online sellers of flooring product," WFCA said.

"Because a state cannot currently require an out of state retailer to charge a customer sales tax, many large online retailers are able to disguise this discrepancy as a discount and charge 5-15% less than WFCA members. The Marketplace Fairness Act will level the playing field and subject everyone to the same local and state sales tax laws. It will prevent customers from using your stores merely as showrooms and it will drive real business back in the door."

WFCA has supported the legislation from the beginning and has been active in promoting it.

The group has developed an online system that will enable its members to write their legislators and urge them to ask Judiciary Chairman Goodlatte to take the bill up in committee.
