Initial Jobless Claims Fall Again

Washington, DC, Oct. 15, 2009--Initial jobless claims fell by 10,000 to a seasonally adjusted 514,000 in the week ending Oct. 10, the Labor Department reported Thursday.

It was the fifth decline in the past six weeks. Economists expected initial claims to fall to about 510,000.

Including federal programs, the number of people claiming benefits of any kind in the week ending Sept. 26 was 9.24 million, not seasonally adjusted, down 127,000 from 9.36 million in the previous week.
