Washington, DC, Aug. 1, 2014 -- The economy added 209,000 jobs in July, the Labor Department said.
However, the unemployment rate edged up to 6.2% as more Americans looked for work.
Economists had predicted 225,000 new jobs would be created.
The report also revised both May and June's reports. June's number was revised up to 298,000 from 288,000, while May was also revised higher to 229,000 from 224,000.
