Surfaces Preview: A peek at what Surfaces 2018 has to offer - Jan 2018

By Beth Miller

Surfaces, taking place January 30 to February 1, is the biggest residential flooring show in the western hemisphere and part of The International Surface Event (TISE) at the Mandalay Bay Convention Center in Las Vegas.

For the last several years, the show has been growing, and 2018 is no exception. The exhibition space is 450,000 square feet, and attendee numbers are expected to be high due to the partnership with the Las Vegas Market (LVM), whose show is expected to draw approximately 40,000 people. The last time Surfaces partnered with LVM was in 2015. Both groups of attendees will be allowed to travel between LVM and all that TISE has to offer, including StonExpo/Marmomac and the Tile Expo.

While the exhibit dates this year run from Tuesday to Thursday, the Ignite education sessions begin on Monday, January 29 and offer opportunities for continuing education credits, certifications, bonus education sessions and interactive workshops. Floor Focus/FloorDaily and Houzz will be sponsoring Designer Day, which includes the Designer Luncheon where Bea Pila, a Miami-based interior designer, will be speaking on design enlightenment.

SOFT SURFACE
Anderson Tuftex-Booth 637
Shaw Industries returns to Surfaces, following a 14-year hiatus, with its new upscale Anderson Tuftex brand that produces carpet and hardwood in the mid- to premium levels. The Anderson Tuftex carpet products are primarily manufactured on the West Coast and come in a wide variety of constructions and textures from a smooth, velvet-cut pile to a shag. Tanzania offers up a time worn theme, while the Tavares products offer a concrete look. Each Anderson Tuftex carpet product is constructed of 100% Stainmaster PetProtect, which is made using nylon 6,6.

Mohawk-Booth 6335
On the soft surface side, Mohawk will unveil four new products in its Airo line. Airo carpet is made entirely of PET, from face fiber to binder to backings, offering consumers a completely recyclable alternative to traditional carpet. The new products focus on tonal effects and color pop, and they come in two weights each, both on the heavier side. Airo’s PET face fiber doesn’t absorb moisture, helping to prevent the growth of allergens such as molds, mildew and dust mites.
