Orders for Manufacturered Goods Ticked Up 0.2% in August

Washington, DC, September 27, 2019-New orders for manufactured durable goods in August increased $0.5 billion or 0.2% to $250.7 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau announced. 

This increase, up three consecutive months, followed a 2.0% July increase. Excluding transportation, new orders increased 0.5%. Excluding defense, new orders decreased 0.6%. Fabricated metal products, up four of the last five months, led the increase, $0.4 billion or 1.3% to $34.4 billion.

Shipments of manufactured durable goods in August, up three of the last four months, increased $0.3 billion or 0.1% to $254.2 billion. This followed a 1.2% July decrease. Machinery, up four of the last five months, drove the increase, $0.5 billion or 1.6% to $33.4 billion.
