Leggett & Platt Earnings Fall in Second Quarter

Carthage, MO, July 24, 2009--Engineered component maker Leggett & Platt, Inc. reported a drop in second quarter profit, as sales dropped substantially reflecting weak sales from all its segments.

For the second quarter, net income plunged to $19.0 million or $0.12 per share from $46.3 million or $0.27 per share in the same quarter a year ago.

Net earnings from continuing operations was $19.1 million or $0.12 per share, down from $45.2 million or $0.25 per share in the comparable quarter last year.

Among its many businesses, the firm makes carpet underlayment.
