Cersaie 2006 Kicks off Today

Bologna, Italy, September 26, 2006-- Over 1,000 exhibits from 30 different countries will present the cream of world ceramic tiles for architecture and bathrooms starting September 26, in the Bologna exhibition venue. It is the most important exhibition of the sector in the world, which expects about 90,000 visitors, 30 percent of whom should be arriving from abroad. It is an event organised by Assopiastrelle in Bologna, which has now become an important international event also in the field of large-scale urban, commercial and management projects, a fact which is also supported by the presence in the next few days of very important architects at the Cersaie, the most important of whom is Italian architect Massimiliano Fuksas, who recently designed the famous sail of the new Milan Exhibition Centre and who will take part on Thursday at a convention on Bologna and the Cersaie. California architect Thom Mayne, winner of the 2005 Pritzker Architecture Prize (a kind of architectural Nobel prize), will also be at the Cersaie on Thursday. In Bologna, Mayne will receive the Seal of the ISA, the Istituto di Studi Avanzati (Institute of Advanced Studies) of the University of Bologna. The Cersaie will be inaugurated tomorrow morning. Attending the inauguration will be, among others, Economic Development Minister Pierluigi Bersani, Confindustria president Luca di Montezemolo and Assopiastrelle president Alfonso Panzani. (AGI).
