Carpet One Donates Red Carpet for “Action Day” in

New York, NY, September 30, 2005--Yesterday some of New York City's busiest sidewalks near Central Park were adorned with 4,000 feet of vibrant red carpet, donated by floor covering retailer Carpet One. The red carpet marked the route for a one-mile walk, organized by America On the Move (AOM), a national nonprofit initiative dedicated to helping individuals and communities across the U.S. make positive changes to improve their health and quality of life. Regis Philbin kicked-off AOM's 2nd Annual "Day of Action," at 11:15 am in the newly re-designed Samsung Experience Store, located in the Time Warner Center of Columbus Circle. There, Regis and AOM's Founder, Dr. Jim Hill, encouraged New Yorkers to take an additional 2,000 steps -- about one mile -- by following Carpet One's red carpet through the streets of New York. AOM's message is that by simply walking an extra 2,000 steps and eating 100 fewer calories each day, individuals can attain and maintain a healthy weight and enjoy a healthier lifestyle. Thousands of New Yorkers took this challenge and registered for the "Day of Action" walk, which followed the red carpet along Central Park South and around Grand Army Plaza. Howard Brodsky, co-CEO and co-chairman of CCA Global Partners, the parent company of Carpet One, participated in the walk, along with representatives from Carpet One of Tarrytown in Tarrytown, New York and Cramers Carpet One in Madison, NJ. After kicking-off the walk, Regis led a group of walkers down the red carpet, stopping at Grand Army Plaza for a brief interview with Brodsky about Carpet One's donation. The group then finished their 2,000 steps at the Trump Tower, where they met Regis's long-time friend Donald Trump. "We are very excited to contribute to America On the Move by donating the red carpet and to have the opportunity to participate in their Day of Action," said Brodsky. "This is a cause that is becoming increasingly important in the U.S. and I'm proud that Carpet One will be helping to encourage individuals to develop healthier lifestyles." Inside Trump Tower, Brodsky presented a special commemorative piece - a framed aerial photograph of the event, with a border of Carpet One's red carpet - to Regis and AOM's Executive Director, Laura Simonds. "The red carpet helped to draw attention to our event and really made people feel special while taking those extra 2,000 steps today," said Simonds. "Our 'Day of Action' was a great success and I'm happy that Carpet One had the opportunity to be involved." The red carpet, which was manufactured by Beaulieu of America, spanned more than 4,000 feet of sidewalk. Carpet One also donated the printed red carpet located at various spots along with route, which featured logos of AOM's sponsors. This special logo carpet was produced by Milliken and Company, Carpet and Rug Division. Following the event, all of the red carpet was cleaned by local Carpet One retailer, Cramers Carpet One, and treated with 3M* Scotchgard* Protector in order to prepare it for donation.
