August Values of Distributive Trade Sales & Manufacturers Shipments Fell

Washington, DC, October 14, 2015—The combined value of distributive trade sales and manufacturers’ shipments for August was estimated at $1,320.5 billion, down 0.6% from July 2015 and down 3.1% from August 2014, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

Manufacturers’ and trade inventories were estimated at an end-of-month level of $1,811.0 billion, virtually unchanged (±0.1%) from July 2015 but up 2.4% from August 2014.

The total business inventories/sales ratio was 1.37. The August 2014 ratio was 1.30.
