U.S. Trade Gap Widened by 2.6% in February

Washington, DC, April 5, 2016—The goods and services deficit was $47.1 billion in February, up $1.2 billion from $45.9 billion in January, revised, the U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis announced through the Department of Commerce. 

February exports were $178.1 billion, $1.8 billion more than January exports.

February imports were $225.1 billion, $3.0 billion more than January imports.

The February increase in the goods and services deficit reflected an increase in the goods deficit of $0.9 billion to $64.7 billion and a decrease in the services surplus of $0.3 billion to $17.7 billion.

Year to date, the goods and services deficit increased $10.8 billion, or 13.1%, from the same period in 2015.

Exports decreased $20.5 billion or 5.5%.

Imports decreased $9.7 billion or 2.1%.
