Personal Spending Rises in August

Washington, DC, Sept. 29, 2014 -- Personal spending increased by 0.5% in August, according to the Commerce Department.

That was slightly higher than the 0.4% growth expected by economists. The July reading was flat.

Spending was also 0.5% higher after adjusting for inflation.

Also, the government said personal income rose by 0.3% in August, up from 0.2% in July.
