Lowe's to Phase out Vinyl Flooring Products Containing Phthalates

Mooresville, NC, May 8, 2015—Lowe’s will phase out vinyl flooring products containing phthalates by the end of 2015, reports the Charlotte Observer.

This news comes on the heels of Home Depot’s announcement that it would do so, which came in late April.

Phthalates, a type of plasticizer used in some vinyl flooring, have been linked to asthma, birth defects, learning disabilities, reproductive problems, liver toxicity and cancer.

Just this week, Lowe’s halted sales of its Chinese-made Tescun laminate flooring after allegations that the product contains toxic levels of formaldehyde.
