DuPont Shifts Its Few Remaining Chattanooga Operations to Virginia

Chattanooga, TN, December 4, 2015—DuPont is shifting the last of its Chattanooga, Tennessee plant operations to Richmond, Virginia, a process that began when DuPont sold most of its 500-acre nylon production facility to Koch Industries in 2004, according to the Times Free Press.

The only operations that remained in Chattanooga following the sale were a performance polymers lab and productions facility.

The decision follows the company’s merger of its performance polymers unit with the packaging and industrial polymers division.

At its peak in the 1970s, DuPont employed over 5,000 workers in Chattanooga and was one of the city’s largest employers.
