Consumer Prices Fall in January

Washington, DC, Feb. 26, 2015 -- Consumer prices fell in January, according to the Labor Department.

On a month-over-month basis, prices fell a seasonally adjusted 0.7% from December. On a year-over-year basis prices declined 0.1%.

Excluding food and energy, prices were up 0.2% last month and rose 1.6% over the previous year. Economists surveyed by The Wall Street Journal had expected a 0.6% decline in overall prices in January from December and a 0.1% gain for core prices on the month.
