CDC Miscalculated Risk to Human Health from LL Toxic Laminate

New York, NY, February 22, 2016—Last night 60 Minutes provided an update to its Lumber Liquidators story, first aired in March 2015, revealing that the Consumer Product Safety Commission and Center for Disease Control & Prevention’s recent study on the human health dangers related to Lumber Liquidators’ high-formaldehyde laminate flooring underestimated risks due to calculation errors.

Ultimately, says 60 Minutes, this means that all predictions are 3.3 times higher than government agencies calculated, which can mean more than 18 times higher than those in a normal home and triple the cancer risk, a level that is considered unacceptable by U.S. and international agencies.

The Center for Disease Control has admitted its mistake, according to CBS News, saying that in its original report it had used an incorrect value for ceiling height.

The agency now estimates the risk of cancer at six to 30 cases per 100,000 people. It previously estimated two to nine cases per 100,000 people.

The agency said that its recommendations will likely stay the same, advising that people take steps to reduce exposure.

Shares of Lumber Liquidators stock are falling following this news.
