BART Installs Hard Surface Flooring in Fleet of Train Cars

Oakland, CA, August 12, 2015—Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) has replaced carpet with sheet vinyl flooring in its fleet of train cars, according to Progressive Railroading.

BART started replacing the carpet in 2008, and, in June, switched the last remaining car from carpet to vinyl.

Crews initially used a spray-on hard rubber surface, but then later switched to vinyl. Both of these options can be found on BART's current fleet.

The decision to replace the carpet with vinyl was based on cleanliness and ease of maintenance, according to BART's assistant maintenance superintendent Jeff Baker.

BART has six lines and 669 cars.
