Unemployment Rate Holds Steady at 3.6% for June
Washington, D.C., July 24, 2023-At 3.6%, the national unemployment rate for June 2023 changed little month over month and was the same as in June 2022, reports the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Last month, unemployment rates were lower in 11 states and stable in 39 states and the District of Columbia. Twenty-two states had jobless rate decreases from a year earlier, eight states and the District had increases, and 20 states had little change.
Nonfarm payroll employment increased in five states, decreased in two states and was essentially unchanged in 43 states and the District of Columbia in June 2023. Over the year, nonfarm payroll employment increased in 41 states and was essentially unchanged in nine states and the District.
The largest job gains occurred in New York (+28,100), Alabama (+8,400) and New Mexico (+7,300).
