Toray Ready to Market Biodegradable Carpet

Tokyo, Japan, May 19--Fiber products manufacturer Toray Industries is ready to market a new biodegradable carpet for home use. Using Cargill Dow's biodegradable resin, the company perfected the technique of making fibers from the material and treating them for durability, non-slipping texture and ability to accept dye. The company introduced the product at a trade show in Las Vegas in February and plans to make its main market in the US, which accounts for 70% of the world market for carpeting. The new products will cost about 20-30% more than equivalent non-biodegradable products. Toray has previously developed biodegradable car mats.
