Shaw Consolidating Fiber Production, Resulting in Closure of Plant 6

Dalton, GA, September 26, 2024-Shaw has announced plans to consolidate select residential fiber manufacturing processes to more fully utilize its facilities with more modern capabilities. This decision is part of Shaw’s broader strategy, focused on creating the right manufacturing, sourcing, and supply chain resources to support its business and serve its customers. The company is investing in innovation and aligning its asset base for greater agility and flexibility in today’s marketplace.

As a result, Shaw will cease operations at Plant 6 in Dalton, Georgia. The transition process will begin immediately with all residential fiber operations ceasing at Plant 6 over the next 60 days. This transition will impact approximately 288 positions.

Plant 6 produces nylon and polyester. Shaw acquired Plant 6 in 1986 through its acquisition of the north Georgia operations of The Dixie Group.

“These decisions are never made lightly,” notes Heather Canada Smith, vice president of human resources at Shaw. “The associates at Plant 6 have been instrumental in serving our customers by creating exceptional quality products, and we are committed to supporting them during this transition.”

Associates currently employed at the facility will have the opportunity to apply for open positions available at Shaw's other locations in Dalton and throughout the U.S. The company has approximately 35 manufacturing, distribution and corporate administrative facilities in Dalton and operates approximately 80 manufacturing and distribution facilities in the U.S.
