Shaw to Shift Residential Broadloom Carpet Production From Plant 80

Dalton, GA, April 17, 2023-Shaw Industries Group has announced plans to shift most of its residential carpet manufacturing operations that currently take place at Plant 80 in Dalton, Georgia to other facilities in northwest Georgia.

Plant 80 will contunie to run one line at this facility.

According to Santo Torcivia at Market Insights, broadloom carpet's share of total flooring sales has declined over the last five years from 32% to 26%, and due to Shaw's scale as the largest producer of carpet in the world, this consoldation to fewer, more modern production facilities is a necessary move for long term sustainabiility. 

Most of the transition is expected to be completed by June 20. 

Affected associates will be given the opportunity to transfer to other manufacturing locations in the area or fill other open positions throughout the company. Approximately 350 positions are expected to be impacted.

Shaw acquired this mill from West Point Pepperell in 1987
