Shaw Closing Decatur Carpet Plant, Shifting Production to Other Facilities
Dalton, GA, June 29, 2023-Shaw Industries has announced plans to shift production of its residential carpet manufacturing operations in Decatur, Tennessee to other Shaw facilities in Northwest Georgia.
The consolidation process will begin immediately, with operations ceasing at the facility (known as Plant 10) by the end of August 2023. Three-hundred and thirty-six (336) positions are impacted.
Shaw has invested hundreds of millions of dollars in its Aiken, South Carolina and Andalusia, Alabama, facilities alone in recent years. With those investments exceeding $750 million once complete, these facilities are state-of-the-art and equipped with leading automation and technology that empower us to be faster, more flexible and agile to deliver desired consumer solutions. These investments and more are a testament to Shaw’s commitment to creating unparalleled value.
Associates currently employed at the facility will have the opportunity to apply for open positions available at Shaw's other locations in Tennessee, Georgia and throughout the U.S. Shaw will also partner with the Tennessee Department of Labor and Workforce Development and organize career fairs in the Decatur area.
In 2017, Shaw invested more than $42 million in the Decatur plant to modernize the facility and allow the company to use both nylon and polyester fiber, including recycled PET, creating 75 jobs.
The plant was built in 1976.
