ServiceMaster 2Q Earnings Up 13.5%

Downers Grove, IL, August 2--ServiceMaster in the second quarter reported an increase in earning of 13.5 percent. Earnings in the quarter were $79.8 million, or $0.27 a share, verses $70.3 million, or $0.24 per share, in the year ago period. Analysts had forecast quarterly earnings of $0.25 a share. Second quarter sales were up 8% to $1.2 billion. The ServiceMaster Clean and Merry Maids franchise operations reported a combined increase in earned revenue of 10 percent in both the quarter and six months, driven by continued solid results in disaster restoration, improvements in commercial cleaning and strong internal growth in residential maid service. The company said it still expects year-end sales growth in the mid- to high-single-digit range, and earnings-per-share growth somewhat faster than that.
