Producer Prices Inched Up 0.4% in September

Washington, DC, October 14, 2020-The Producer Price Index for final demand advanced 0.4% in September, seasonally adjusted, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported. 

Final demand prices rose 0.3% in August and 0.6% in July. 

On an unadjusted basis, the final demand index increased 0.4% for the 12 months ended in September, the first advance since moving up 0.3% for the 12 months ended in March.

In September, nearly two-thirds of the rise in prices for final demand is attributable to a 0.4% increase in the index for final demand services. Prices for final demand goods also moved up 0.4%.

The index for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services advanced 0.4% in September, the largest increase since rising 0.4% in April 2019. For the 12 months ended in September, prices for final demand less foods, energy, and trade services moved up 0.7%, the largest advance since increasing 1.0% for the 12 months ended in March.
