Preliminary Jobless Claims Figures Show Increase

Washington, DC, July 7, 2022-In the week ending July 2, the advance figure for seasonally adjusted initial claims was 235,000, an increase of 4,000 from the previous week's unrevised level, according to the Department of Labor.

The four-week moving average was 232,500, an increase of 750 from the previous week's unrevised average.

The Wall Street Journal reports that "the figure stands just above the 2019 prepandemic weekly average of 218,000, when the labor market was also strong."
