Portobello America Building Tile Plant in Tennessee

Baxter, TN, December 4, 2018-Portobello America officials announced on December 3 that the company will locate its U.S. headquarters and first U.S. production facility in Baxter, Tennessee.

The ceramic tile manufacturer will invest approximately $150 million in Putnam County and create 220 jobs.

Portobello, headquartered in Brazil, is the largest tile manufacturer in Brazil. The company serves countries on five continents and internal markets through multi-brand retailers, the Portobello Shop franchise and sales channel for engineering. Portobello has more than 2,600 employees, responsible for the design and innovation of items that launch trends in architecture and interior design in Brazil.

Portobello will locate its new operations on the Tennessee Motor Speedway site in Putnam County, where the company will build a new facility. Construction is set to be complete by 2021.

There are a host of other ceramic plants already located in Tennessee, including Crossville, Daltile, Del Conca, Stonepeak, Atlas Concorde, American Wonder and Florim USA. Tennessee is a preferred location due to its proximity to the clays needed to manufacture porcelain as well as it's central location for outbound freight to major U.S. markets.
