Orders for Manufactured Goods Rose 0.4% in July

Washington, DC, September 2, 2021-New orders for manufactured goods in July, up fourteen of the last fifteen months, increased $1.9 billion or 0.4% to $508.1 billion, the U.S. Census Bureau reported. 

This followed a 1.5% June increase. 

Shipments, also up fourteen of the last fifteen months, increased $7.8 billion or 1.6% to $508.5 billion. This followed a 1.9% June increase. 

Unfilled orders, up six consecutive months, increased $4.1 billion or 0.3% to $1,225.6 billion. This followed a 0.8% June increase. The unfilled orders-to-shipments ratio was 6.79, down from 6.90 in June. 

Inventories, up thirteen of the last fourteen months, increased $3.7 billion or 0.5% to $744.4 billion. This followed a 1.0% June increase. The inventories-to-shipments ratio was 1.46, down from 1.48 in June.
