Nox Signs Memorandum of Understanding with BASF ChemCycling

Fostoria, OH, January 24, 2025-Nox Corporation, a luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring producer, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BASF Corporation, a global chemical company, to reduce virgin fossil use and enhance resource circularity in the flooring industry.

This collaboration focuses on integrating BASF's ChemCycling program into Nox production processes, aiming to introduce circular plasticizers derived from recycled mixed plastic waste.

Plasticizers are essential in manufacturing flexible plastics but often raise environmental concerns. Nox has already addressed these challenges by utilizing DOTP-based plasticizers free from harmful substances. Through this partnership, Nox incorporates BASF’s ChemCycling program. BASF uses recycled raw materials in its production which are transformed from previously non-recyclable mixed plastic waste by using advanced thermochemical processes. The feedstock is attributed to certified products in a mass balance approach. This recycling approach promotes a circular economy, increases recycling rates, and reduces waste. By adopting ChemCycling, Nox ensures that products maintain the same high-quality standards as those made from virgin materials while advancing its commitment to sustainability in LVT production.

Under the terms of the MoU, BASF and NOX will drive initiatives for supplying ChemCycling-based sustainable DOTP to Nox US and its application in the production of high-performance LVT for residential and commercial applications.
