Mosaic Companies Acquires Walker Zanger and Opustone

Los Angeles, CA, July 7, 2021-Holding company Mosaic Companies has purchased Walker Zanger and Opustone, two distributors of luxury natural and engineered stone slabs and tiles in the North American market.

A family-owned business since 1952, Walker Zanger is a Los Angeles-based designer of luxury tile and stone surfaces, and has showrooms and slab galleries, as well as 200 authorized dealers nationwide. Based in Miami, Opustone was founded 20 years ago and is a distributor of decorative and ornamental stone in the South Florida region, with three luxury showrooms.

The acquisition of Walker Zanger was complete in January 2021, while the acquisition of Opustone closed this month.

Founded in 2019, Mosaic also owns Surfaces Southeast, a manufacturer and distributor of specialty wall and mosaic coverings to the home center and specialty retail markets.

In addition to retaining his role as president of Opustone, Eric Schigiel will also serve as a strategic advisor to Walker Zanger’s slab division. Jeff Lupica, acting general manager of Walker Zanger, will continue his role, supported by the existing Walker Zanger team.

The holding company is a partnership between Albert Claramonte, the founder of Surfaces Southeast, and The Baupost Group, a leading Boston-based investment manager that partners with family and founder-owned businesses.
