Mohawk Closing Georgia Spun Yarn Plant

Calhoun, GA, Oct. 31, 2011 — Mohawk Industries said it will close its spun yarn plant in Rome, Ga. later this year.

The shutdown will be effective Dec. 27.

The decision reflects an industry trend toward filament fibers and away from spun yarn.

Shaw and Beaulieu have also announced plant closings in recent weeks as the carpet industry continues to contract.
