Bend, OR, May 11--Millstone Industries, manufacturer of nationally distributed niche wood products, announced Monday that it has entered into an agreement to purchase the former Ponderosa Mouldings building in Redmond from Jeld-Wen.
The new building, at more than double the size of the company's current facility, will give the company room to grow and create access to more of central Oregon's labor market. The firm currently has about 70 employees, and expects to expand following the move.
"With the recent launch of Millstone Industries, we recognized the critical need for additional plant capacity to improve production flow and efficiencies of current operations, and to enhance delivery schedules for our regional and national customers," said Tom Pickell, president of Millstone Industries. "Just as important, the new facility will provide plenty of room for future growth.
"Moving to Redmond also gives us greater access to a larger pool of wood products-related labor base because of its centralized proximity to Madras, Prineville and Bend."
The move will be facilitated with the assistance from a number local agencies, including Economic Development for Central Oregon and Redmond Economic Development.
Millstone Industries plans to start moving certain production departments to Redmond in early June, and hopes to complete its move by August.
Millstone Industries LLC focuses on niche market wood products, with divisions that specialize in solid prefinished and unfinished hardwood flooring, millwork and accessories.
After acquiring certain assets of Morelock Wood Products upon its closure, Millstone continues to market the solid plank flooring under its original name, Morelock Flooring. The flooring line's unique Western species, wide plank widths and character grades make it very popular in today's rustic market.
Millstone Industries customers include building material distributors, manufacturers of plastic roofing panels, home improvement retail stores, furniture manufacturers and brokers.
