Mattress Sales Down 5.7% by Dollar Value in Q1

Alexandria, VA, June 20, 2025-"The total mattress market was down 5.7% in dollars and 11.2% in units in the first quarter compared to the same period last year,” reports Furniture Today.

Like flooring, mattresses are a deferable purchase.

“That’s according to the latest figures from the Bedding Market Quarterly published by the International Sleep Products Assn. In its first quarter 2025 report, ISPA noted that the quarter was impacted by ‘slowing economic growth, policy uncertainty and stubborn inflation.’”

“First quarter sales, including domestically produced and imported mattresses and stationary foundation, totaled $2.4 billion, a 5.7% drop from the $2.5 billion in the same quarter last year. In units, total market sales dropped 11.2% to about 8.7 million units compared with 9.7 million units in the same period in 2024.

“Sales for U.S.-produced mattresses in the quarter dropped 4.4% to about $2 billion compared with $2.1 billion in the first quarter of last year. Units sold of domestically produced mattresses slid 8.1% to 4.4 million pieces in the quarter from about 4.8 million in the same period of 2024.”
